Manila, Philippines – April 26, 2025 – This April 28th, 2025, marks not just the 18th year since the enforced disappearance of Jonas Burgos, but a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice and accountability in the Philippines.
Sixteen years after the abduction of Jonas Burgos on April 28th, the families faced a further tragedy when human rights defenders DexterCapuyan and Bazoo de Jesus disappeared on the same date, solidifying April 28th as a day of profound sorrow. To honor the memory of Jonas, Dexter, and Bazoo, a moving event will be held, bringing together families of the disappeared to share their stories and renew their collective commitment to justice.
The event will take place on Monday, April 28th, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the UPFI Film Center. It will feature a special screening of the Cinemalaya award-winning documentary Alipato at Muog, directed by Jonas Burgos' brother, JL Burgos. This powerful film offers a deeply moving portrayal of Jonas' life and the lasting impact of his disappearance.
